Metropolitan Museum of the Riverside

The Metropolitan Museum of the Riverside preserves artifacts, archives, and historic sites owned by the City of Riverside. This includes the National Historic Landmark Harada House and the National Register-listed Museum and Victorian House Museum Heritage House. With over 200,000 artifacts and 2,000 linear feet of archives in Natural History, Indigenous Resources, and History, the Museum offers free permanent and special exhibitions, educational programs, cultural events, and school programs to the community. The Museum, named initially the Cornelius Earle Rumsey Indian Collection, opened in 1924 in the basement of old City Hall. It was relocated to a former U.S. Post Office built in 1912 in 1948 after the widow of NABISCO magnate Cornelius Earle Rumsey donated her late husband's collection of Native American artifacts to the City of Riverside. It's one of the museums that you should never miss.

Emergency shelters in Riverside County

Riverside County will develop eight emergency shelters with American Rescue Plan Act funding. The county's website states that the $7.6 million project will increase the number of shelter beds countywide by 28%, adding 241 new beds. This aligns with the county's five-year Homeless Action Plan, which the board of supervisors adopted in April 2022 and called for a 25% increase in shelter beds. Supervisor Karen Spiegel said in the statement that we need to create as many opportunities as possible to address the needs of families experiencing homelessness in our county. This investment increases the system's capacity, so individuals in crisis are not turned away because of space shortages. During their stay in an emergency shelter, individuals are given essential items and services, including case management and help finding a permanent place to live. Read more
